Completed in March, 2004, this Trio Sonata was commissioned by Barbara Steinberg, a recorder student of Frances Feldon. The requested instrumentation specified piano rather than harpsichord, though the latter is perfectly acceptable. The right hand of the keyboard part is fully realized, also as requested, but the experienced continuo player should not consider it to be an obbligato part (even though technically, it really is an obbligato part so you should probably learn it). Although there are spots in the realization that deliberately address gaps in the other parts, the player is invited to use or discard any of the realization at his discretion.
In addition to using two Alto recorders for the treble lines, it is also possible to use two violins or a combination of recorder and violin. An oboe could work on the second treble line as well, though there are some high notes that could be troublesome.
