Performed in Oakland, CA by the commissioning group at the San Francisco Early Music Society Recorder Workshop, July 2019.
This delightful pastiche was commissioned by a small group of recorder players in Sonoma County, California, that have a tradition of playing “Happy Birthday” for each other. They needed something new, adding the request that the familiar “Happy Birthday” melody move around the group “to comedic effect.” They debuted this piece on the birthday of one of the group’s members, November 11, 2018, with plenty of giggles from the audience.
The Great Bass part is provided in both a treble-clef and bass-clef version, the latter of which is also suitable for a second F bass if no Great Bass is available. Alternate pitches have been provided in smaller note heads as substitutes for the low notes out of bass range.
Performed by Hotte Ayre April 2024 at Foothill Presbyterian Churcn, San Jose, CA.
